Renovating the Birregurra Oval and returning to play
Turfcare were pleased to aid in the delivery of the Birregurra oval renovation, a joint project with the Birregurra Football Club and the CFA.
During the Victorian bush fires in 2015, the Birregurra Football Oval became an evacuation point and a tent city almost overnight. It housed thousands of displaced families and animals, as well as firefighters and other emergency services.
After heavy use for a prolonged time, the oval suffered and needed some renovation work to bring it up to scratch for football season. The Turfcare team, with the help of the local football club, completed a huge amount of work to aid in the restoration of the playing surface.
By removing the existing damaged ground and levelling the surface underneath, Turfcare were able to save the costs of carting new sand in. When the irrigation and drainage system installation was complete, the ground was ready to be line planted with Kikuyu, giving the spriggs time to establish. An extensive maintenance program was then implemented.
The tailored program included aeration, oversowing with rye, kikuyu seed blend and regular mowing using both cylinder and outfront. This was to ensure at least 90% coverage in time for the 2017 Birregurra Saints Football season.
